Yesterday afternoon I was lucky
enough to visit Whitmore's in Leicestershire, with Steve Maskery, and buy
some massive air-dried oak boards. It was a really good way for me to learn
about buying timber. ...snip... We arrive at the appointed time and I find that Whitmore's covers about 27 acres with a huge stock of English Oak. They specialise in English and European hardwoods with a few American hardwoods thrown in for good measure. I saw American and French walnut but it was the sheer size of the waney edge boards that impressed me so much. The staff at Whitmore's were also very very knowledgeable and helpful. |
